John Lego has been practicing transactional law for nearly 30 years, 20 of those with Kudman Trachten Aloe Poser, LLP. His practice focuses on all facets of commercial and residential real estate. He has represented institutional lenders, the State of New York, commercial developers, labor unions, hoteliers, restaurateurs and buyers and sellers in all facets of real estate law.

Making an Impact on the Law

Mr. Lego has the knowledge and experience to achieve his clients’ goals and close transactions effectively and efficiently—from multi-million-dollar office building financing to a purchase of a cooperative apartment on the lower east side, from representing commercial landlords of new construction office buildings to representing tenants in a sub-sublease of office space. Whether acquiring a restaurant through an asset sale, developing a parcel of land through a joint venture agreement, or entering into a franchise agreement and leasing retail space, John helps clients negotiate their transactions with attention to detail, compliance with government regulations and applicable law all with the intention of achieving the client’s goal.

He has represented clients in the purchase of property from the City of New York’s Economic Development Corporation; Negotiations for land leases with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and closing $50,000,000 construction loans with consortium of lenders among many others.

Mr. Lego also very much enjoys working with individual buyers and sellers of residential cooperatives, condominiums and townhouses. From sellers in the Sherry Netherlands and buyers in the Four Seasons at 30 Park Place to buyers and sellers in HFDC cooperatives each client receives individual attention and the legal services deserving of clients at Kudman Trachten Aloe Posner. Mr. Lego strives to return each phone call or email from clients the same day. He gives his clients the time and attention necessary to explain complex legal issues. Being with a firm, with disparate practice areas as Kudman Trachten Aloe Posner, also allows Mr. Lego to draw upon the experience and skills of his colleagues.

Providing Legal Assistance to Charities, Artists and Arts Organizations

Mr. Lego is particularly involved with the arts and has volunteered his time to the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. He frequently conducts impromptu law seminars with artists in the gallery and ceramic studio he and his wife, Nadeige Choplet, own in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They also own commercial real estate together and are developing a new building from the ground up in Greenpoint Brooklyn. These personal real estate business experiences bring a practical and creative business approach to his real estate practice.
